The man whom Elton John once referred as the greatest songwriter on the planet has returned with his seventh studio album, Out of the Game.
Wainwright scores ‘cool’ points, and has hopefully garnered
a wider audience, by inviting Mark Ronson to produce the new album.
The tracks are noticeably less flamboyant and more
radio-friendly than the elegant strings and mournful moaning that was standard
in earlier works, such as Want and Poses.
Wainwright himself reveals his inspirations for Out of the
Game were the birth of his daughter and the death of his mother, the singer
Kate McGarrigle, and, along with Ronson’s influence, has produced another album
sure to be revered by other artists as much as by his fans.
