This one-off special documentary, narrated by Martin Clunes, and featuring real-life stories of doting dog owners and their extraordinary pets delves deeper than ever before into how, and why, our canine companions behave the way they do.
The documentary explores the reasons people who have dogs live longer and enjoy better mental wellbeing as well as showcasing barely believable examples of devotion from these most loyal of mammals.
Among the personal stories are wheelchair bound, ex-Navy Officer, Allen Parton, who formed an intense bond with Labrador, Endal, despite not being able to recognise any of his family following a Gulf War injury-Endal went on to recover Parton from a further accident with more capability than some adult humans in the same situation.
Maureen Burns also tells how her dog, Max, detected her breast cancer before doctors, a scientifically proven canine ability, along with being able to detect low blood sugar levels in diabetics.
