BBC Two
Award-winning, Abi Morgan, (whose
writing credits include The Iron Lady, Shame and Birdsong) has gifted
the BBC with a second series of The Hour, a newsroom drama full of
loose morals, power hungry behind and front-of-camera characters and
enough brooding, smoking and drinking to match Mad Men.
We pick up a year after we left off, in
1957, with Peter Capaldi (of The Thick of It) joining the cast as the
eccentric new Head of News who must strive to restore order and
reputation to the programme.
With Bel (Romola Garai) growing
increasingly obsessed with Britain’s criminal underground, she is
desperate to reunite the old gang to help her break the story, but
Hector (Dominic West) has allowed himself to be swallowed up by his
new-found celebrity and Freddie (Ben Whishaw) ditched London to go
travelling after being fired in the last series.
Oh, and the Cold War is upon them.
