King of Collaborations, Calvin Harris’, third album already
spawned five summer smashes before its release at the end of October and,
despite the expected two or three filler tracks that could never stand on their
own, Harris could easily release the rest of the album piece by piece, and I’m
sure the singles chart hasn’t seen the back of 18 Months.
The whole thing is pretty aurally friendly but look out especially
for I Need Your Love featuring Ellie Goulding, her voice was made for his
euphoric electro stylings.
That said, I’m not sure 18 months would sell if it weren’t
for the all-star line-up of collaborators.
Calvin’s sound is identifiable and dance-floor filling, but
it’s the unique touches provided by the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Rhianna and
Florence Welch that furnish his musical foundations with chart topping extras.
