Your Sister’s Sister was billed as one of those mildly
gritty, low-key, yet entertaining indie films. So low-key in fact that you probably missed its limited
cinema release in June and if you’ve been waiting to see it on DVD, I’d advise
that you give it a miss.
Emily Blunt is in danger of slipping into the same
type-casted trap Hugh Grant fell into in the 90’s, making us question whether
she can play anything other than a self-deprecating,
‘best-friend-you-happen-to-love’.
Between Blunt, her shamefully selfish sister, martyred,
lay-about best friend, and their equally self-serving motives, there’s not one
character you care about. It’s slow, dull and the ending isn’t worth sticking around
for.
If you’re still in need of an indie fix, try Safety Not
Guaranteed, which was also recently released on DVD, and has the same writer,
director and leading man, but the kookiness actually pays off.
