For the first time in aviation history,
a team of scientists, elite pilots and international experts
deliberately crash a Boeing 727 passenger jet in a bid to understand
the terrifying, and thankfully rare, experience of a “serious but
survivable forced landing”, apparently the most common type of
in-flight disaster.
You may think a fear of flying would
turn you off a documentary like this, but think again, as the
programme aims to answer all those mythical questions surrounding
passenger survival, such as whether sitting at the front or the back
of the aircraft increases your chances of escape and whether wearing
your seatbelt or adopting the brace position will actually help you
at the crucial moment.
Captain JimBob Slocum will pilot the
plane on a crash course before attempting to parachute to safety
moments before impact to allow the experts to see how they might make
air travel safer in the future.
