TV - Royal Greenwich

Sunday 29th July, 7pm, ITV

Greenwich is set to be the first London borough to be awarded Royal status in over 80 years in honour of the role it will play as host of this year’s Olympic Games and also the rich, historical significance of the area.

John Sergant discovers gems in Greenwich’s past along with intriguing Royal links and how these are coming together to deliver an exciting, contemporary experience for the millions of visitors descending on the borough from all over the world this summer.

John visits the team on board the Cutty Sark who are attempting to complete a £50 million facelift on the fire-wrecked tea clipper in time for Queen Elizabeth II’s official visit.

Work at Greenwich Park’s Olympic Equestrian course and the Millennium Dome’s basketball and gymnastics arena is also celebrated in the programme, along with the surprising role King Charles II’s mistress played in the conception of the Royal Observatory and meridian line.
