DVD - Ruby Sparks (15)

This is about the time of year all the good indie films that crept in after summer blockbuster season are released on DVD.
We’ve already had The Imposter, Perks of Being a Wallflower and Liberal Arts, and now Ruby Sparks to flesh out your dinner party conversation-appropriate film arsenal.
Wunderkid author, Calvin, (Paul Dano) is struggling to follow up his bestselling debut and so, plagued by writer’s block and failing to adjust to his newfound celebrity, pens his ‘perfect’ woman, Ruby,  and wills her in to existence.
His conflicted mind begins to sabotage his own creation though and Calvin must harness his creativity in less destructive ways before Ruby destroys him and herself.
Ruby Sparks is the first screenplay from Zoe Kazan, who plays the title role, and her charming, insightful story is brought to life by the directing duo behind Little Miss Sunshine.
