Thirty years of marriage has left Kay (Meryl Streep) aimlessly skirting around her cantankerous, predictable husband, Arnold (Tommy Lee Jones).
Streep’s meek, downtrodden Kay is so far from the vivacious women we’re used to seeing her play and her last-ditch desperation is heart-breakingly palpable.
Can a renowned couple’s therapist (Steve Carrell) help them reconnect, or will Kay and the sceptical Arnold ’s relationship prove broken beyond repair?
Directed by David Frankel, known for The Devil Wears Prada and dog-centric weepy, Marley and Me, the latter of which Hope Springs is in the same vein.
Mother’s Day is on Sunday 10th March, by the way, so if you order this most mum-friendly of DVDs from your preferred online retailer now, you should be covered.
