Stacey Dooley has made several
hard-hitting documentaries with BBC Three, from her original
sweatshop exposé, Blood, Sweat and Tears, to this latest programme
in which she investigates the questionable rise in young female
convicts in the US, the reasons for their incarceration and the
extreme action some are taking to turn their lives around.
Stacey has been given unprecedented
access to the only boot camp prison for girls in the US, in New York
State, where the young women are offered a different solution as to
how to spend their sentences.
By accepting six months hard labour at
the boot camp prison, they are rewarded with a shorter sentence, but
this involves a military-style regime, where barking orders and
head-shaving is combined with therapy.
One-to-one encounters with staff and
inmates offer a unique insight into how the US penal system is
working for young women.
