While The Big Bang Theory and New Girl
have been tapping into the new fashion for adorkable anti-leading men
and women, How I Met Your Mother has been filling the familiar,
comforting Friends-shaped gap left in our television schedules.
The reliably dysfunctional but
endlessly supportive group that make up the ensemble cast have made
it through seven series, with the eighth on air now, and seen
countless relationships flame and fizzle, while college couple, Lily
and Marshall, go from strength to strength with a baby and a wedding,
and shameless lothario, Barney, finally settles down, albeit with a
pole-dancer.
This, rumoured to be penultimate,
series still doesn't reveal how narrator, Ted, met his future wife,
let alone tell us who she is, but the show has kept its pace since
it's 2005 début and definitely has enough steam left for another
series.
