If Disney Pixar’s latest princess, Merida from Brave, (in
cinemas now and the subject of this week’s film review) leaves you yearning for
the halcyon days of wasp-waisted, doe-eyed traditional Disney dames then this special
diamond edition re-release of Cinderella should placate you.
Based on a folk tale dating back to the 1600’s, Walt’s 1950
animation depicts a kind and beautiful house-servant’s glittering rise from the
oppressive clutches of her step mother and ugly sisters, with the help of her
adorable rodent side-kicks, who repeatedly burst into song at every appropriate
opportunity.
No self-respecting production house would issue a re-release
without including some extra special features and in Cinderella’s case you get
a whole extra animated ‘short’, Tangled Ever After, an introduction by Diane
Disney Miller and a sneak peek “behind the magic” at a new Disney princess.
