Cinderella: Diamond Edition (U)

If Disney Pixar’s latest princess, Merida from Brave, (in cinemas now and the subject of this week’s film review) leaves you yearning for the halcyon days of wasp-waisted, doe-eyed traditional Disney dames then this special diamond edition re-release of Cinderella should placate you.

Based on a folk tale dating back to the 1600’s, Walt’s 1950 animation depicts a kind and beautiful house-servant’s glittering rise from the oppressive clutches of her step mother and ugly sisters, with the help of her adorable rodent side-kicks, who repeatedly burst into song at every appropriate opportunity.

No self-respecting production house would issue a re-release without including some extra special features and in Cinderella’s case you get a whole extra animated ‘short’, Tangled Ever After, an introduction by Diane Disney Miller and a sneak peek “behind the magic” at a new Disney princess.
