Ever the avant-gardists, most of the tracks from Animal
Collective’s new album, Centipede Hz, were performed live at the Coachella
music festival in 2011 before the group had even had a chance to record them, obviously
eager to appease fans after a comparatively long hiatus (the group released
eight albums between 2000 and 2009 before this latest).
Animal Collective’s joyous experimentation proves that it’s
not just pill-popping clubbers that like a little electro with their popular
music.
The boys from Baltimore have also sprinkled a fair amount of
Sergeant Pepper on their visuals creating a colourful, cacophonous aural and
visual experience.
As with their 2008 critically and commercially adored,
Merriweather Post Pavilion, Animal Collective have somehow surprised again with
an even more progressive, eclectic creation than their last with Centipede Hz.
Why listen to regular old experimental-pop when you can
listen AND dance to Animal Collective.
