Perhaps the greatest and most relatable accolade to bestow
on the Californian rockers’ latest offering is in the reception of the lead
sing from the album, which sounds as though (and is often mistaken for) a
long-lost track from the Pets Sounds era.
With this 50th anniversary reunion project The Beach Boys
are now sitting ahead of The Beatles and behind Frank Sinatra as the artists
with the longest-span of Top Ten album releases, having first gifted the world
with Surfin’ Safari in 1962.
Al, Bruce, Mike, David and Brian still harmonise, scale
climb and arrange like it’s 1964, reminding us why The Beach Boys’ and their
unique sound, in all of their incarnations, has endured the decades.
