Emperor of New Year’s Eve and honcho of Hootenannys, Jools
Holland, has put together a compilation of memorable performances backed by his
infamous Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.
Holland’s arrangements bring out the best in his guest
performer’s voices and his song selections suit most of them more than their
own releases ever have.
Paul Weller has never sounded as smooth and oddly alluring
as he does on September in the Rain, and the Hootenanny host even manages to
soften Florence Welch’s trademark powerhouse caterwauls on their rendition of
My Baby Just Cares For Me.
