With her self indulgent theatrics and peace-shattering vocals, Paloma Faith earned a reputation as somewhat of an enfant terrible with her first album, Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful.
By the sounds of it, she’s suffered something
heart-breakingly dreadful between her debut release and this, her latest, Fall
To Grace, but it has done wonders for her song writing, replacing the stilted,
try-hard kookiness with true, heartfelt emotion.
Her producer, Nellee Hooper, is responsible for some of
Bjork and Madonna’s best work and the pair successfully combined Paloma’s
trademark cinematic arrangements with a new, darker lyrical direction.
Gushing praise aside, the lead single, Picking up the
Pieces, isn’t bettered by anything else on the album.
